Practice test format by emirate

Choose your emirate in the app and the mock tests follow its practice format.

About these figures. Sharjah Driving Institute publishes 25 questions, 18 correct to pass, in 20 minutes. The Dubai figures (35 questions in 30 minutes, about 65% to pass, and 5 short risk-recognition clips) come from news reports and an older RTA announcement, not from a current published format. Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates do not publish a format, so the app uses a general UAE practice format there. Pass marks for clips are practice targets. Ask your driving institute what to expect on the day.

Your licence journey

The steps are similar everywhere, but the details differ by emirate. The app keeps a checklist for your emirate and licence; here are the main milestones.

  1. Eye test

At an approved optician or eye test centre, usually before or just after you open your file.

  2. Traffic file and learning permit

Through RTA in Dubai, TAMM in Abu Dhabi, or the MOI system in the other emirates.

  3. Theory lectures

At your driving institute, in a classroom or online.

  4. Theory test

Booked through your institute or licensing authority once the lectures are done.

  5. Lessons and road test

Practical training with a permitted trainer, then the yard and road tests.

Detailed steps in each emirate

Truck ban times by emirate

Each emirate sets its own truck movement bans, and the hours change, especially in Ramadan. The app has a truck-ban reference and questions on the rules; always check the latest notice before you drive.

Check Dubai truck ban times

In Dubai, trucks are banned from some roads at all times, from others for most of the day, and from busy city roads at morning, midday and evening rush hours. RTA changes these rules from time to time, and hours may differ in Ramadan. Check RTA's current notice before you drive.

Check Abu Dhabi truck ban times

In Abu Dhabi city, heavy vehicles are banned during the morning and evening rush hours from Monday to Thursday, with different hours on Fridays. Other roads may have their own rules. The hours change, and may differ in Ramadan, so check the latest Abu Dhabi Mobility notice before you drive.

Check Sharjah truck ban times

In Sharjah, trucks are banned from many main roads during morning and afternoon rush hours. The hours are changed for Ramadan each year and can change at other times too. Check the latest notice from Sharjah Police or the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority before you drive.

Check Ajman truck ban times

In Ajman, heavy vehicles may use the two main streets only outside the morning and afternoon-to-evening ban periods, and they are banned from other streets altogether. Ajman Police change these hours from time to time, and they may differ in Ramadan. Check the current Ajman Police notice before you drive.

Check local truck ban times

Some emirates ban trucks from certain roads at busy times, and hours may change in Ramadan or after new decisions. Rules in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain are set locally. Before you drive, check the current notice from the police in that emirate, published through MOI channels.

Heavy truck: questions and answers

How old do I need to be for a heavy truck licence?

At least 20. The same minimum age applies in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the emirates on the MOI system.

How many questions are in the heavy truck theory test?

It depends on the emirate, not the licence. Sharjah Driving Institute publishes 25 questions in 20 minutes. News reports describe 35 questions in 30 minutes in Dubai. Other emirates do not publish a format, so the app uses a general practice test of 35 questions in 30 minutes. The app has 617 practice questions for this licence.

Are there risk-recognition clips for this licence?

Yes. The app has 8 original 3D clips seen from this vehicle, in right-hand traffic: 3 are free to try and Pro unlocks them all. Dubai's theory test is reported to include risk-recognition clips; the app's full practice test for Dubai adds 5 clips after the questions.

Can I study in Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Malayalam or Bengali?

Yes. Every question, explanation and licence step for this licence is in English, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Malayalam and Bengali, and you can show two languages side by side. Ask your institute which languages the test centre offers.
